Donors at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith blood drive July 10 will receive vouchers for free tickets to the Tulsa Zoo, according to Stephanie London of Fort Smith, student activities event coordinator.

The drive, which will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 129 of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, is sponsored by the UAFS Student Activities Office and will have a shorter time for donors to sign up and give blood than the drives held during the academic year, according to London.

London said there are additional surprises in store for donors, including a free "Feel Fierce. Give Blood." T-shirt.

Dan Miller, blood program consultant with the Arkansas Blood Institute, explained why the July blood drive is taking place.

“Although there is not a shortage, summer is an especially critical time of need for blood products because of a combination of donor schedules -- due to school being out, vacations, and production schedules at work -- and usage. You know, the need for blood never takes a vacation,” he said.
