Maybe the Drennen-Scott Historic Site’s second annual Victorian Christmas simply wasn’t meant to be this year.

 

After postponing the event from Dec. 6 to Dec. 13 due to inclement weather, the event has been cancelled after weather promises to be a factor for the second straight week.

 

Tom Wing, DSHS director and associate professor of history at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, said it “just seemed like the best thing to do.”

 

“The weather for this Friday is better than last week but not enough to merit the program,” he said. “We have lost the carriage and luminaries outside with rain in the forecast. We had planned for people attending the event to park downtown and shuttle to the site, so visitors would be exposed to the weather just to get to the house.”

 

The event, which would have presented the Drennen-Scott house as it was in the 19th century adorned with Victorian decorations, will ostensibly be held again next winter.
