A university administrator from Ohio has been selected as the new vice chancellor for enrollment management at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith.
Julie L. Burdick, associate vice president for academic affairs at The University of Akron will assume her duties at UAFS on June 1, according to Dr. Paul B. Beran, chancellor.
“The addition of Julie Burdick to the senior staff at UAFS is an important hire for us,” said Beran. “I believe her credentials and experience will help us position the institution to further meet the needs of students throughout this region. She is bringing to us her proven success in the field of enrollment management, and she has the background and leadership abilities to develop for UAFS a high-quality, evidence-based enrollment and retention program.”
At UAFS Burdick will have oversight for the offices of admissions, financial aid, career services, academic advising, international programs, testing and the registrar.
Burdick, who has been in her current role at Akron since August 2011, was previously at the University of Cincinnati for nine years as director of academic planning and assessment and also the director of enrollment management for the College of Engineering. Prior to that, Burdick worked as director of admissions for Chatfield College in St. Martin, Ohio.
She said she is looking forward to her position at UAFS.

My husband, Gordon Strauss, and I are looking forward to our move to Fort Smith and getting settled in this beautiful area.”
Burdick has a bachelor’s degree with a double major in marketing and management from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and a master’s degree in business administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati.
