Parents at UAFSParents at UAFS, a registered student organization at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, presented a check for $550 to the Children’s Emergency Shelter following fundraisers held on campus.

The organization raised these funds by holding two yard sales, one in the fall semester and one in the spring. As parents, the group decided on the emergency shelter since they wanted to donate to a nonprofit organization helping children.

“We had a few different organizations we were considering early in the semester, and with the help of our members, we decided the Emergency Children's Shelter was a perfect fit for us,” said Lara Millican, president and co-founder of Parents at UAFS. “They are providing such an important service to our area, and we are beyond blessed to be able to donate to this great organization and hope to be able to donate more to them in the future.”

The Fort Smith Children’s Emergency Shelter provides shelter and care for children ages 6-17 who have been removed from their home by the Department of Human Services because they were a victim of child neglect or abuse.
