The monthly meeting of the Ark-Homa Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society and the Oklahoma Anthropological Society will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 in Room 202 of the Math-Science Building on the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith campus.

The lecture, titled “Beyond the ‘Bluff Dweller:’ Archeology Of Prehistoric Bluff Shelters Of The Arkansas Ozarks,” will be presented by Dr. Jamie Brandon and Lydia Rees. The presentation will overview more recent archeological work and offers possible future directions for research that can further refine our understanding of Ozark bluff shelters.

Rees is a research assistant with the Arkansas Archeological Survey’s Sponsored Research Program and is currently working on a grant-funded Ozark bluff shelter project.  She has been in the field for 14 years.

Brandon is an associate research professor at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and the Arkansas Archeological Survey’s UAF research station archeologist. In this dual position, he teaches anthropology courses and is responsible for public outreach and research. He has over 25 years of archeological experience and has been working in the Ozarks since 1997.

The presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Tim Mulvihill, UAFS research station archeologist, at 479-788-7812 or tim.mulvihill@uafs.edu.
