Students will have an opportunity to experience homelessness and donate to help local homeless residents at the Cardboard Box City event held Oct. 7-8 on campus.

Coordinated by the Student Affairs Office and the Non-Traditional Students Organization at UAFS in collaboration with Next Step Day Room, the event will allow students to build and decorate a box shelter that they will sleep in overnight.

Additionally, students will hear from a former homeless veteran and will participate in several activities to educate students on the homelessness experience.

Donations are also being accepted from the community for bottled water, toothbrushes and toothpaste, socks, protein bars and feminine hygiene products. Donations can be dropped off from 3:30-8:00 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Old Gymnasium during the Box City event.
