one act showcase

Students perform during last year's "One-Act Showcase."

Three nights of short theatrical productions will grace the stage at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith when the university’s theatre department will perform the annual "One-Act Showcase" at 7:30 p.m. April 27-29.

The performances, which will take place in the Breedlove Auditorium, located at 5120 Grand Ave., are free and open to the public. Ratings and content vary by show, with some shows rated for all audiences and some for ages 16 and older. Ratings will be listed on the program.

Each night will contain four-to-five 15-minute productions that are cast, conceptualized, designed and directed by UAFS students, giving them an opportunity to hone their skills as a director while giving them a deeper appreciation of theatre in general.

“For students who are in the directing track of the program, it serves as a capstone on their experience here at UAFS,” said Theatre @ UAFS Director Bob Stevenson. “But not all of the student directors are looking to make a living as a professional director. Some are actors or writers or stage managers looking to understand the other facets of the theatrical and dramatic arts. And what better way to learn than to jump in with both feet?”

While some of the same shows will be performed on separate nights, there will also be two to three new performances each night, according to Stevenson.
