homecomingThe University of Arkansas – Fort Smith campus community and residents of the greater Fort Smith region will have the opportunity to get their game on during the university’s annual Homecoming festivities Feb. 5-10.

 

The theme this year is “Get Your Game On,” denoting a retro arcade theme for the celebrations. New events include a sweatshirt swap, a Yoshi egg hunt, and a Strong Lion Competition, which will make for an exciting week of events, said Stephanie London, director of student activities.

 

“Homecoming is an exciting tradition on campus,” London said. “We love welcoming our alumni back and celebrating our Lion pride with the entire Fort Smith community.”

 

Events include:

 

Monday, Feb. 5:  

All day: Homecoming banner display in the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.

 

All day: Homecoming King and Queen voting on NUMALink.

 

11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Homecoming trivia competition and sweatshirt swap at the fireplace of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center. Students can bring in old sweatshirts or long-sleeved shirts and exchange them for a Homecoming sweatshirt while supplies last. Donated shirts will be given to a local charity.

 

Tuesday, Feb. 6

All day: Homecoming King and Queen voting on NUMALink.

 

6 p.m.: Yell Like Hell in the Stubblefield Center.

 

Wednesday, Feb. 7

All day: Homecoming megaphone display in the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center. Student organizations will showcase large cheerleading megaphones that they’ve decorated to the Homecoming theme. The megaphones will be judged, with winners announced on NUMALink Feb. 9.

 

All day: Yoshi Egg Hunt across the UAFS campus. Yoshi eggs will be hidden around campus, which students can redeem in the Student Activities Office for prizes, including UAFS gear, Homecoming T-shirts and stuffed Numa lions.  

 

Thursday, Feb. 8

All day: Homecoming megaphone display in the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.

 

7-8:30 p.m.: Homecoming bonfire, pep rally and canned food drive west of the Echols Building on the UAFS campus.

 

Friday, Feb. 9

2 p.m.: Strong Lion Competition at the Recreation and Wellness Center. Four teams of five people will compete in five competitions: speed, heavy bag carry, pull-ups, bench press and jump rope.

 

Saturday, Feb. 10

10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Homecoming street fair at Kinkead Ave., featuring tailgating, street painting, food trucks and live music.

 

1 p.m.: Lady Lions basketball game against St. Edward’s at the Stubblefield Center. The Homecoming King and Queen will be named at halftime.

 

3 p.m.: Lions basketball game against St. Edward’s at the Stubblefield Center. Student organizations winning Homecoming competitions will be named at halftime.
