Local children will have a slate of 15 summer camps to choose from throughout the season, with topics ranging from music to engineering to athletics.

Writing Camps

July 9-11: Summer Writing Camp for grades 9-12. Campers will have the opportunity to work with university professors to create their own unique poetry, fiction and podcasts. The registration fee is $96 for day camp, which includes lunch, and $190 for residential, which includes housing and all meals. Music Camps

June 11-15: Summer Band Camp for grades 7-12 and held from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day. Directed by Dr. Alexandra Zacharella, the camp includes master classes and sectionals, chamber ensembles, and evening recreational activities such as movie night, bowling and talent night. June 18-22: Summer Choral Academy for grades 7-12 and held from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day. Directed by Dr. Timothy Workman, the camp features an acapella jam and karaoke night and culminates in a Friday night concert. The commuter rate is $210 and the residential rate is $410. June 25-29: Jazz Band Camp for grades 9-12 and held from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day. Directed by Dr. Christopher Barrick, the concert offers fun evening activities and culminates in a Friday night concert. The commuter rate is $210 and the residential rate is $410. STEM and CAST Camps

Note: These camps are only offered for Arkansas residents, as they are funded through a grant from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education.

 

June 10-15: LION Investigation residential camp for grades 9-11 and held on the UAFS campus. In the camp, students will explore areas of applied technology, automation, information technology, and engineering through exciting, hands-on projects. The camp is sponsored by the College of Applied Science and Technology and the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at UAFS, in collaboration with the Arkansas Department of Higher Education.  The camp is $100 and includes housing, meals, t-shirt, and project materials.

 

June 25-29: LION Exploration for grades 7-8 and held from 1:30-4:30 p.m. each day. In the camp, students will explore areas of applied technology, engineering and science through exciting, hands-on projects. Fees are $40 which includes a T-shirt, project materials and snacks. The camp is sponsored by the College of Applied Science and Technology and the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at UAFS, in collaboration with the Arkansas Department of Higher Education.

 

Athletics Camps

June 4-6: Lions basketball skills camp for boys entering grades K-8 and held from 9 a.m.-noon each day. The camp will focus on the fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, passing, defense and rebounding. The fee is $100 and includes a basketball and certificate. June 7: Lions basketball shooting camp for boys entering grades K-8 and held from 9 a.m.-noon. The camp will teach shooting fundamentals, action drills and shooting mechanics. June 11-13: Little Lions skills camp for girls entering grades K-7 and held from 9 a.m.-noon each day. Campers will be grouped by talent level and will be given age-appropriate instruction by current UAFS coaches and players. The fee is $100 and includes a T-shirt. June 13-15: Lions volleyball elite camp for girls entering grades 8-12. The fee is $180 for overnight campers and $150 for commuters and includes a free T-shirt. Online registration is available at www.uafsvolleyballcamps.com.

 

June 17-18: Lions basketball elite camp for boys entering grades 9-12, held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 17 and 9-11 a.m. June 18. Elite camps will be an intensive clinic focused on improving fundamental skills through a college practice format and implementing those skills in 5-on-5 games.
