Please use the accordions below to learn more about Lion Leadership at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith.

  • There will be approximately one session per month over the course of one academic year (September – May).
  • Each session will be a normal workday, 8:00a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with some exceptions.
  • There may be additional times that your class meets to discuss your project or participate in other activities related to the class.

  • Yes, all exempt and non-exempt employees will be paid for those days out of the office.
  • It is important to communicate with your supervisor regarding the days missed to ensure coverage for your department.

  • There is no cost to the participants.
  • There is no cost to the participant’s department.

  • Attendance is expected at each session.
  • Read 360 Degree Leadership by John Maxwell (book will be provided).
  • Participate in team building and other leadership activities.
  • Complete a group project.

  • The selection committee will be made up of members of Faculty Senate and Staff Senate.
  • The class will consist of an equal number of faculty and staff members. We encourage people from all departments to apply – we want a diverse representation of our campus.
  • Selection criteria includes:
    • Demonstrated leadership or leadership potential.
    • A desire to become more involved in our campus community.
    • Willingness to bring your time and talents to the class and work cooperatively toward completion of the class project.
    • A desire to learn more about UAFS and how you can become a better leader and advocate for our campus.

  • We anticipate having more applications than space available. The committee will strive to have representation from all departments on campus. This means if multiple people apply from the same area, some will unfortunately be declined.
  • We encourage everyone who is not selected to apply again the following year. We anticipate this program becoming a tradition on campus and want as many faculty/staff to participate as possible.

  • We hope this provides an opportunity for faculty and staff to get a broader view of UAFS and learn about other departments you may not interact with regularly.
  • The program will build more UAFS ambassadors, but also build relationships among faculty and staff that will improve our ability to serve students.
