UAFS Campus to Re-Open Feb 20.

UPDATE (Final, 2-19-25):

The UAFS campus will be open, and classes will be held as scheduled tomorrow, Thursday, February 20.

This afternoon’s National Weather Service briefing indicated precipitation is unlikely overnight, and today’s sunny weather, paired with the hard work of the Arkansas Department of Transportation road crews, has substantially improved travel conditions throughout the area.

If you are commuting from outside the River Valley or on rural roads that have not been treated, please check road conditions at IDrive Arkansas before your trip to ensure safe travel. If you have concerns, please discuss them with your faculty or immediate supervisor as soon as possible.

UPDATE (2-18-2025): The UAFS Emergency Management Team has decided to once again cancel classes and close the campus Wednesday, February 19, in response to the National Weather Service’s predictions for additional snow and ice accumulation throughout the evening, coupled with severely cold temperatures that could make travel hazardous across the region into the morning

ORIGINAL (2-17-2025)

Lions,

The UAFS Emergency Management Team has made the decision to cancel classes and close the campus Tuesday, February 18, in response to the National Weather Service’s predictions for winter storms with potentially dangerous sleet and snowfall and hazardous road conditions across our region Tuesday. We will announce plans for Wednesday tomorrow following the 3:15 p.m. NWS briefing. Expect an email around 4:00 pm tomorrow.

The HLC Criterion 2 meeting will still take place at 1 p.m for faculty and staff. Here is a link if you would like to attend:

If you need to work from home you may do so. Human Resources will automatically load inclement weather leave for all employees, though individuals who need to work will be able to adjust the leave in Workday.

Campus buildings will be locked with the exception of the Boreham Library 24-hour lab, campus housing, and the Stubblefield Center. All events scheduled on campus, at the UAFS Center for Economic Development at the Bakery District, and WATC courses will be canceled.

For individuals living on campus, HES has already begun salting sidewalks and will continue to clear walkways to the dining hall, but we encourage you to use your best judgement when traversing campus.

Additional information:

Campus Safety:

University Police will remain on campus to assist with emergencies and will continually evaluate the condition of roads and sidewalks. UPD can be contacted at their non-emergency line: 788-7140 or updFREEuafs

Plant Operations:

Plant Operations staff will be on call as needed to check campus buildings for winter-weather-related issues and respond to emergent facility needs.

Boreham Library:

The Boreham Library will be closed. Students will still have access to the 24-hour lab.

Housing and Dining:

Each housing facility will have a Resident Assistant (RA) on call throughout the closure to assist with resident needs.

The Lion’s Den dining hall will transition to brunch and dinner hours, 10:30 a.m. to 1p.m. and 4:30-6 p.m.

Winter Weather Safety:

The National Weather Service has cultivated information to stay safe during winter weather that you can reference before, during, and after a winter storm.

Future Updates:

The best way to receive information regarding inclement weather and other emergency operations is through your university email and Lions Alert, the university’s emergency notification system. We will continue to send official campus updates via email, and notices regarding changes to campus operations will be posted on the UAFS webpage and social media accounts.

Stay safe, Lions,
