Prospective students, local residents and the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith campus community can catch a new perspective of the university and campus life through the university’s new Snapchat account, UAFSlions, launched last week.
Snapchat is an image messaging social media application, allowing users to communicate with each other via photos and videos – known as snaps – that can be altered by filters and text for fun effects. The snaps sent through the service are temporary, meaning they can only be viewed for a short amount of time before they disappear.
The social media platform’s unique features will provide a different view of campus life, according to Amy Fairbanks, university relations coordinator who oversees the university’s social media accounts.
“Snapchat’s platform and features allow us to convey a side of campus that is more difficult to capture on other social media platforms,” Fairbanks said. “Through the fun, light-hearted tone of Snapchat, our followers can be virtually on our campus, where other platforms are less video-centric and have a more serious and informative tone.”
The university will also coordinate giveaways and contests throughout the school year on the account, including giveaways during the Sept. 8 CMT Concert.
