Campus Update, July 25, 2025

Happy Friday, Lions.

Mane Event: Congratulations to the Division of Student Success and Retention, and especially to Stephany Dobbins ("Happy birthday, Stephany!"), on three very successful and well-attended Mane Event new student orientations this summer. It was a pleasure to meet so many new students and their family members as they are becoming Lions. My special thanks to all of the faculty, staff, and students who participated to make these new student orientation events so successful.

Budget: As we continue to seek ways to save money on our operations, I want to publicly thank Natalie Rice, IT specialist, who began researching the possible replacement of our phone system with the use of Microsoft Teams. Natalie determined that if we stay with our current Cisco Phone system, it will cost us around $93,696 a year. If we switch to Microsoft Teams, it will cost us around $109,302 a year, and there will be an upfront one-time cost of $107,309. Based on this information, we have made the decision to continue our use of the Cisco phone system. Thanks for this review so that we know we are making the best decisions with our limited resources.

I want to encourage all of you to submit any ideas you have for generating revenue or cutting expenses through the use of this website: Budget Suggestions

Congratulations to Curtis Janz, assistant vice chancellor for the Department of Athletics, Recreation, Health, and Wellness, who was just named to the Oklahoma Christian University Athletics Hall of Fame. Curtis served as AD at Oklahoma Christian University from 2009-2016, and he spent more than 30 years as a student, coach, and administrator at OC. This is a huge honor, and I am so happy that his long-time service and leadership are being recognized in this way.

I hope all of you have a fantastic, restful weekend!
