"Hannah's Father Was a Builder" by Kay Healy

Nationally-renowned artist Kay Healy will be displaying her artwork at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith from Feb. 1 – March 29, with a reception slated from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 2.

 

The exhibit, titled “Encore,” will feature more than 25 artworks in the gallery of Windgate Art & Design, the university’s state-of-the-art visual arts facility. The reception will take place in the lobby of the facility.

 

The artworks include five room-sized screen printed and sewn fabric installations from her series “Lost and Found,” which were based on stories from people who described objects they had lost and wished they still had. The exhibit also features a number of other works Healy created from 2013-2017.

 

A native of Staten Island, N.Y., Healy has received acclaim for her drawn, screen printed, and stuffed fabric installations that investigate the themes of home, displacement and loss. She has had solo exhibitions on display in Japan and across the United States, and has been named a fellow in the Center for Emerging Visual Artists’ Career Development Program.

 

She received her bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and a master’s degree from the University of the Arts. She lives and works in Philadelphia.
