The Bachelor of Science in math with teacher licensure (grades 7-12) program provides an in-depth curriculum taught by accomplished mathematics and education faculty. The teacher licensure portion of your program blends advanced theory with hands-on experience to ensure you are prepared to lead your classroom upon graduation.

Earning your B.S. in mathematics with teacher licensure opens many doors locally and abroad by preparing you for a rewarding and challenging career as a mathematics educator. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be a qualified teacher for the state of Arkansas. Many UAFS graduates continue their formal education by completing master's and doctoral degrees at highly recognized universities.
 
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for high school teachers is expected to keep pace with the general economy well through 2031. Whether you plan on entering a career in business, government, or education, our Bachelor of Science in mathematics program will arm you with the knowledge and skills necessary for success. Mathematics faculty focus on providing every student with the tools for success, from freshman introductory classes to the completion of an independent research project as a senior. Our programs help students develop skills such as higher order analytical thinking and advanced problem solving, which are highly marketable in today’s workforce. Mathematics graduates are in demand in a wide variety of careers including education, business, industry, and government.

There is a separate application process for mathematics with teacher licensure, and requirements for admission may change over time. Students must meet admission requirements current at the time of their final application for admission to the teacher education program. Minors

This 7-hour program is intended for non-majors interested in a basic understanding of mathematics above their minimum degree requirement. Students with advanced training in mathematics and statistics in addition to their primary discipline have a significant advantage in pursuing research-based opportunities in graduate school and employment. 
 

This 9-hour program will allow students to effectively conduct research to accurately interpret statistical reports in the media and in journal articles while further developing critical thinking and analytic skills. Students will gain experience with hands-on, real-world problems and be equipped with a broader foundation of statistical knowledge and techniques ensuring students will be capable of managing information.


Certificate of Proficiency

This 9-credit hour program provides curriculum designed for those in helping professions such as human services, health care organizations, educators, and others. Courses include Intermediate Spanish I, II, and Spanish for the Professions. Beginning Spanish I and II, or required placement scores are prerequisites for Intermediate Spanish I.


Upon completion of the mathematics with teacher licensure program, graduates will be able to:

  • demonstrate competency in analyzing and communicating conclusions from meaningful research.
  • apply mathematics to the solution of problems in mathematics and be able to effectively communicate the solutions in written and oral form.
  • demonstrate competency in the theoretical content knowledge of undergraduate mathematics including the writing of valid proofs and properties of fundamental mathematical structures.
  • demonstrate knowledge of concepts and theories in mathematics.
