Understanding Your 1098-T Tax Form
The 1098-T tax form is an official statement provided by educational institutions to enrolled students who made payments toward qualified educational expenses during the previous calendar year. This form helps students or their families determine their eligibility for education-related tax credits when filing their federal tax returns.
You will use the information on the 1098-T tax form to determine if you qualify for credits such as the American Opportunity Tax Credit or the Lifetime Learning Credit.
UAFS student’s 1098-T forms will be accessible electronically through the My.UAFS portal on Jan. 31, 2025. Additionally, a physical copy will be mailed to the address we have on file for you. Below, we’ve provided answers to common questions about the form and guidance on accessing it.

The 1098-T is an IRS tax form that provides information about your qualified educational expenses, such as tuition and fees. These expenses may qualify you or your parents for education-related tax credits. Once you receive your 1098-T form, you should review it carefully and provide it to the person preparing your taxes or use it to complete your own federal tax return.
Your form will be available in two ways:
- Electronic Access: Log in to your My.UAFS account, navigate to the "Student Service and Financial Aid (BSS)" section, and access your 1098-T under the tax documents menu starting Jan. 31, 2025.
- Physical Copy: A paper copy of your 1098-T form will be mailed to the mailing address we have on file for you. Ensure your address is up to date to avoid delays in receiving your form.
If you need an additional physical copy, you may request one by contacting the Cashier’s Office. Please ensure your mailing address and Social Security Number are up to date before submitting your request.
It is crucial to ensure your information is accurate to avoid any issues with your 1098-T form:
- Update Your Mailing Address
- Log in to My.UAFS, click on “View my Student Service and Financial Aid (BSS),” then select “Personal Information.” Update your address using the provided link
- Visit the Registrar’s Office in person.
- Update Your Social Security Number
- Bring your Social Security card and a photo ID to the Registrar’s Office on the second floor of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.
