Online Course Options

Types of Online Courses

Full-Online Course

These courses will show as FULL ONLINE in the class schedule
  • Full-online courses have course materials, class assignments, discussions, projects, and quizzes online.
  • Students are not required to attend classes on campus for fully online courses. However, faculty are required to have online office hours which should be posted in the course syllabus.
  • All grades are recorded in the Grade Center.
  • Examinations must be completed in a proctored environment or via SmarterProctoring. If you plan to take the examinations at a location other than the UAFS campus, you must complete the proctor formand obtain your instructor’s approval.
  • An additional fee will be charged for full-online courses

Synchronous Online Course

These courses will show as SYNC ONLINE in the class schedule with meeting times listed but no room assignment.
  • Synchronous online courses have course materials, class assignments, discussions, projects, and quizzes online.
  • Students are required to attend virtual class sessions as listed in the schedule of classes. Meeting times may vary but will consist of at least one-third of the standard times per week. Faculty are required to have online office hours which should be posted in the course syllabus.
  • All grades are recorded in the Grade Center.
  • Examinations must be completed in a proctored environment or via SmarterProctoring. If you plan to take the examinations at a location other than the UAFS campus, you must complete the proctor formand obtain your instructor’s approval.
  • An additional fee will be charged for synchronous online courses.

Hybrid Course

These courses will show as HYBRID in the class schedule.
  • Hybrid courses have the majority of course materials online.
  • The instructor reduces class meeting time by at least one-third but no more than two-thirds. Summer five-week hybrid courses meet two days a week at a standard time and ten-week hybrid courses meet one day a week at a standard time.
  • Most class assignments, discussions, projects, and quizzes are available online.
  • All grades are recorded in the Grade Center.
  • Examinations must be taken in a proctored environment or via SmarterProctoring. If you plan to take the examinations at a location other than the UAFS campus, you must complete the proctor form and obtain your instructor's approval.
  • No additional fee will be charged for hybrid courses.

Web-Enhanced Course

Students attend all class meetings on campus.
  • Some course materials such as the syllabus, calendar, announcements, and lectures are available online.
  • Faculty members may also put assignments and quizzes online so you can submit assignments and take quizzes.
  • You may be able to view your grades in the Grade Center.
  • You must take finals and major examinations in the classroom.
  • No additional fee will be charged for web-enhanced courses.
