Course Registration Information

Academic Calendar

The academic calendar is your source for important dates related to your academic career at UAFS including all advising and registration details.

Course Schedule

Advising

  • Each semester after the course schedule is published, the advising season begins.
  • Before the schedule is released, students will receive communication from their advisor with instructions on how to schedule an advising appointment.
  • All students are required to meet with their advisor each semester to review their academic progress, plan courses for the upcoming term, and discuss any questions about course sequencing, degree completion timelines, or university policies.
  • During the advising appointment, the advisor and student should also review any holds or pending items that could prevent registration.
  • Once the advising meeting is complete and all holds are cleared, the student is ready to register for classes.
  • To ensure the best appointment times, students are encouraged to schedule early. Advisor availability becomes limited as we approach Registration Week. Appointments can be scheduled in Navigate.

Registration Timeline

  • Registration Week marks the official opening of the registration window for each term. Students may register any time after their assigned Registration Appointment time.
  • Registration Appointments are found in the Academics hub of Workday with the specific date and time.
  • Registration week is the preferred time to register to ensure enrollment in the preferred sections and avoid being placed on a waitlist.
  • Registration remains open until the first week of the term, allowing students to make schedule adjustments, if needed.
  • For details on registration timelines and dates please refer to the Academic Calendar.

Are You Ready to Register?

Follow these steps to ensure a smooth registration process.

  4. Create a Saved Schedule
    • Use Workday to build and save your preferred class schedule ahead of time for quicker registration once your window opens.

Registration How-To

Students can register three ways in Workday

  • Saved Schedule (recommended)By saving your preferred class sections ahead of time, your full class schedule for the next semester is already built. This feature also allows you to register in the Workday Mobile App.
    • Once your registration appointment opens:
      • Go to the Academics Hub
      • View your Saved Schedule
      • Click “Register
  • Academic Plan
This method is similar to using the Saved Schedule but requires more time and attention on the day of registration.
Registering from the Academic Plan allows students to see the Academic Requirements for the upcoming term and choose their preferred courses that meet those requirements.  This option allows for some flexibility to compare class times and section options before registering.
    • Go to the Academics Hub
    • View My Academic Plan
    • Click “Register from Plan
    • Review the course offerings that meet each requirement, select your preferred sections, and click “Register."
  • Find Course Sections
If you are unable to use a Saved Schedule or Academic Plan, you can manually search for and register for specific course sections.
    To register this way:
    • Go to the Academics Hub
    • Open the Planning and Registration
    • Click Find Course Sections to search and register.

Waitlisted Courses

If a course has reached maximum capacity during registration, a student may place themselves on the waitlist for the course.

If a student is on a waitlist for a course section, this will not appear under Current Courses but will be listed on the same screen under a Waitlisted Sections header.

Being on a waitlist is not a guarantee that the student will be moved into the section, and it is not calculated in the overall enrolled hours.

Students will be notified if an available spot opens in a section and must take action to accept the seat.

How It Works

When a spot opens on a waitlist:

  1. The next student on the waitlist will be notified of the opening and informed of any holds the prevention of registration or other registration restrictions including holds, max hours, course eligibility (pre/corequisites), duplication of courses, time conflicts, etc.
  2. The student will have 72 clock hours to accept or decline the spot. During that time, they may also resolve any registration restrictions in order to accept the spot.
  3. If the student takes no action within 72 clock hours, or is unable to resolve any holds or restrictions, they will be moved to the end of the waitlist and the next student on the waitlist will be notified.

Failure to comply with the following rules may result in the student being dropped from waitlisted courses:

  • Students may not register for one section of a course and be placed on a waitlist for another section.
  • Students may not waitlist more than one section of a course.
  • Students may not waitlist for courses offered at the same time as a course in which they are already registered.
  • Students must meet all prerequisites or corequisites for a waitlisted course.
  • Students may not waitlist for a course which will put them beyond their maximum allowed credit hours.
  • Students with registration holds may be dropped from their waitlisted courses.

Important Notes

  • Tuition and fees for waitlisted courses will not be charged until the student is officially registered in the course.
  • Waitlisted courses are not included in the overall enrolled hours. Once a student is officially registered for a course, only then will enrolled hours be adjusted. This may be important for certain financial aid eligibility
  • Being on a waitlist is not a guarantee that the student will be moved into the section, and it is not calculated in the overall enrolled hours.

Making Changes

Do you need to drop a class before the term starts or make a change to your schedule? Students can Drop or Swap classes in Workday on the My Enrolled Courses tab with the Actions button

  • Drop allows you to remove the selected course entirely from your schedule
  • Swap allows you to remove that course and add another in its place- this could be a new section or meeting time for the same course, or a different course entirely. Once this swap is processed, your My Enrolled Courses will update. You can use this guide for details on how to Drop and Swap in Workday.

Withdrawing from a Course After Semester Starts

Once the semester begins (or after the official adjustment and refund period ends), you must officially withdraw from a course in Workday if you decide not to remain enrolled.
