English, Rhetoric and Writing, and Media Communication Department

Welcome!

English, Rhetoric and Writing, & Media Communication

The Department of English, Rhetoric and Writing, and Media Communication seeks to provide students with a humanities-centered education that cultivates avenues for self-expression, self-knowledge, written and oral communication, and creative and analytical thinking.

Through four-degree programs, five minors, and four certificates of proficiency, our award-winning faculty help students learn and apply writing and media strategies, communication skills, reading proficiencies, presentational strategies, convergent-media proficiencies, and critical thinking to enhance their academic, professional, and personal endeavors.

Graduates with degrees from this department go on to find employment in a variety of fields, from teaching to business, banking, technology, education, publishing, and entertainment. The department also serves UAFS’s general education programs by providing both foundational and elective courses in communication, film, literature, and writing.

We support two independent, student-led publications: the international online literary journal, Applause, and the Lions Chronicle online campus newspaper. Through our vibrant common-read program, Read This, we promote multidisciplinary collaborations across campus and throughout the surrounding communities.
